Medical Transportation Providers
Millbrook Band is eligible to recommend additional medical drivers for Millbrook.
Before the Council will recommend a driver to NIHB regional office they would like the applicant to have the following qualifications:
• Reside on Millbrook First Nation
• Has never been convicted of an offence for anything that directly relates to the safety or security of passengers
• Is willing to provide a copy of their driver's abstract (available from the Registry of Motor Vehicles office)
• Vehicle meets the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Act and seatbelt laws.
• Is willing to provide a photo copy of their valid regular NS driver's license
• Is willing to provide a photocopy of a valid registration certificate for the vehicle
• Is willing to provide a copy of a current and valid insurance policy with a minimum coverage of one million dollars public liability and property damage coverage, permission to carry passengers for compensation from the automobile insurance provider and all perils insurance to indemnify and save harmless the Band and NIHB from any charges, claims or demands that may arise from the use of these vehicles.
• Is able to transport clients to medical appointments on an as needed basis throughout the day and evening as necessary.
Medical transportation providers are independent contractors who are recommended by the Chief and Council to provide medical transportation to registered Indians. To submit claims to the Non-Insured Health Benefits program of Health Canada the drivers must also be approved by First Nations and Inuit Health under their rules, regulations and guidelines.
