Chief Lawerence Paul- Profile
Chief Lawerence Paul was born July 23, 1934 in St. John, New Brunswick. At the age of eight he moved to Nova Scotia, where he lived in a community without running water and indoor plumbing. He pledged then and there to make life better for his family and his community. He became Chief of the Millbrook First Nation in 1984, and has since taken the community to a level of growth where economic development and social programs flourish.
In addition to serving on numerous steering committees and boards, Chief Paul has been named business person of the year by the Truro and District Chamber of Commerce, a top 50 CEO in Atlantic Canada by Atlantic Canada Business Magazine, A Doer and Thinker for the new ERA by Atlantic Progress Magazine, and News Maker of the Year by the Truro Daily News. He has recieved the Queen's Jubilee Award, the Aboriginal Inclusion Award for Corporate Relations, and was recently presented with the CANDO Economic Developer of the Year Award. Most recently, Chief Paul was presented with a honourary doctorate in Civil Law from St. Mary's University.
Message To Band Members: To members of the Millbrook First Nation both on and off reserve I look forward to serving you as Chief for the upcoming term. There is much to do! Our efforts are for the benefit of band members on and off the reserve and band members of the future. We will continue to build upon our success, explore new opportunities and build for a better tommorow!
